Ah, the very first Loserz comic(published
online). This brings back memories. Whenever I need to reassure
myself that yes I am learning and my artwork is improving
I go back and look at these old things. Though these original comics
are very sloppily done, there is a cartoony charm to them and somewhere
along the line I lost the ability to convey expressiveness that my characters
portray in these early strips and didn't start to gain it back until
was into the hundreds. Originally I meant to start Loserz off with
an "introductory" comic where the characters essentially present themselves
to the audience and describe who they are. I luckily realized this
was very unnecessary and it is almost always better to just throw the viewers
into the characters' lives and let their actions describe who they are.
This joke is still a pretty weak opening to the comic though... Oh well,
I thought it was very cute at the time, and since about three people read
the comic at first, it didn't matter too much. I didn't realize until
later on that the lawyers mentioned in this comic are obviously local to
where I live and only people from my part of Michigan would recognize those
names. The fact that I grew up seeing their commercials means nothing
to the viewer.
